Old School Friday "Happy Birthday Harry Elston"
Well here we are at another Friday and it is a bit cold here in Texas. I am refusing to turn on my heat because my electric company is absolutely HORRENDOUS (Just because you are"serving" green energy does not mean I should be paying the highest prices available)! So today I am buying wood for the fireplace so that my family does not freeze to death! Any way, I digress!
Cool weather means baking, cooking, and of course GOOD MUSIC! So of course me being an old school lover, I had to find something really good today to go with my fire in the fireplace! And I found it... Today is the 73 birthday of Harry Elston! Name not ringing a bell? How about if I say, today is the 73 birthday of Harry Elston, singer of The Friends of Distinction!! By the way, Harry Elston was born right here in Dallas, Texas! Oh yea, if you love old school music then I know you love Friends of Distinction! Learn more about the Friends of Distinction HERE and HERE!

Old School Friday "Happy Birthday Telma Hopkins"
Most of you may know Telma Louise Hopkins from the television sitcom "Family Matters" or from the sitcom "Half & Half". But I first became aware of Ms. Hopkins when I was about 7 years old (1973) and she was 1/3 of the singing group Tony Orlando & Dawn! At the time, they had a hit song titled "Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree". I knew the song well because when I was young I was a Fresh Air Fund child and spent most of my summers with a family in Ashland, Pennsylvania. The family had a daughter named Laura who was my age and Tony Orlando & Dawn was one of Laura's favorite groups!
So this Old School Friday is my ode to rural summers. Summers of sitting in front of Pop-pop's general store (Pop-pop was Laura's granddad!) eating ice cream, summers of running through fields of wild flowers, and summers of feeding the wild rabbits in the woods behind the Selinsky's home (my summer home!). and my Happy Birthday to Telma Hopkins!
Enjoy!
He Don't Love You, Like I Love You - Tony Orlando & Dawn
Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree - Tony Orlando & Dawn
Knock Three Times On The Ceiling - Tony Orlando & Dawn
Knock Three Times... (From one of my favorite movies, "Now & Then")
Happy Friday! Spread A Little Love! Regina

Old School Friday "Otis Redding"
Today is the birthday of none other than Mr. OTIS REDDING! Man, he belted out some smooth tunes! Some songs just NEVER get old and Ottis Redding was the singer of MANY OF THEM! Mr. Redding was born in Dawson, Georgia on September 9, 1941 and he died in tragic plane accident in Madison, Wisconsin on December 10, 1967. He was only 26 years old when he died. His song "Sitting On The Dock Of A Bay" was his last recorded song, and it game out in January 1968 (His only #1 hit). The song was actually unfinished because the whistling he did in the song was only a place holder for lyrics to be inserted later, but due to his death he never got the chance to finish it. I was 1 year old when Otis Redding died but I ABSOLUTELY love his music. I can only assume the love of Otis Redding came from my mother playing his music, but oddly enough my mom is not that big of an Otis fan. Hmmm, maybe my dad then??? Well, I do not know where my love of Otis Redding came from but it is in my bones!!
To learn more about Otis Redding (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967), go HERE and HERE!
So sit back and Enjoy!!!!
I've Been Loving You Too Long To Stop Now - Otis Redding
These Arms Of Mine - Otis Redding

Happy Birthday OTIS REDDING!
Rest In Peace...

Old School Friday "Ohio Players"
I recently caught some missed episodes of Unsung, man oh man I LOVE that show! Today I am posting some Ohio Players! Most of the songs are of a sexual nature and when they came out (around 1975) I was about 9 years old. At 9 I knew nothing at all about sex but these are some of my favorite songs, smh, go figure! Back in those days there was not much music choices, there was no rap/hip hop in 1975, (first commercial rap song was Rappers Delight, which came out in 1979) it was all funk, gospel, or R&B. So Old School Music is buried deep in my psyche and I was told I was born with an old soul! LOL! My mother was a music lover and I stayed going through her albums! To learn more about the Ohio Players go HERE and HERE. Anyway, ENJOY!!!
My favorite Ohio Players song...... Sugarfoot (the lead singer) is putting in work!
Heaven Must Be Like This - Ohio Players
This next song has some killer horns!
Skin Tight - Ohio Players
Sweet Sticky Thing - Ohio Players
You gotta LOVE the 70's!!!
Love Rollercoaster - Ohio Players
Drum solo on a slow jam...sweet!!!!
I Want To Be Free - Ohio Players
Happy Friday All!!
Peace & Love!

Old School Friday Happy Father's Day Weekend!
As I have posted numerous times on my blogs, when I think of my father, the sound track is always Gil Scott-Heron most notably "Your Daddy Loves You"! When grandaddy comes to mind I always think of the song "Jesus is Love" by the Commodores! Unfortunately I have no memories that are accompanied by music when it comes to my paternal grandfather because he was hospitalized for many years and I only remember him in a hospital bed.
Today I am going to highlight songs that I am attributing to my Father and Grandfather, songs that I like to think they would sit in a swing and listen to as they relax in a cool summer breeze.
Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay - Otis Redding
Summer Breeze - The Isley Brothers
Still Waters Run Deep - The Four Tops
Summertime - Billie Holiday
To ALL the Fathers that are still with us Have an AWESOMELY BLESSED FATHER'S DAY! Remember YOU are the EXAMPLE of manliness in some boys life, act accordingly! For those who have already gone on I pray that you are resting with the Angels (Or doing the Cupid Shuffle with Jesus!)!!
Be Blessed All!!
Hug a Father Today!
